The Right Way To Buy A Car 2011

toyota-camry-new-02
Car payments are a huge burden for many American families. It is not uncommon for a family to be paying as much as $800-$1,000/month on family cars. In “The Financial Physician: How to Cure Your Money Problems and Boost Your Financial Health” the longest chapter deals with the car buying process and how to buy right. Here is an exerpt:
WASTING MONEY ON A LIFETIME OF CARS
THE AILMENT
After our homes, cars are the costliest items that most of us buy. In the course of our lives, we will buy as many as 10 to 15 cars. So how we buy and finance our cars can make a huge difference in our financial health.
Years ago, most families had one car, which they kept until it died of old age. Today, families tend to have more than one car and will buy a new one every four or five years. And many people trade up more frequently.
The problem is that cars are both expensive and awful investments — in fact, they’re not really investments. They are de-investments, which is my term for assets that are guaranteed to decline in value. When you invest, you hope that the value of your investment will increase, but when you buy a car, you know that its value will steadily drop. Since the main purpose of a car is to provide transportation, to get you from point A to point B, it may be time to rethink how you purchase cars.
Cars are depreciating assets. Let’s say that you just bought an auto for $22,000. The salesman congratulated you for making such a great deal and as you drive home, you feel like a million bucks. Actually, you should be crying because you lost $4,400 the moment you left the lot.
New cars lose about 20% of their value as soon as you take ownership. Then they depreciate anywhere from 6% to 13% annually. So in the first year, you could lose $5,720 to $7,260. Ouch! The money you lost could have been saved or invested in assets that usually appreciate over time.
If you buy 10 cars during your life at an average cost of $25,000 each, you will lose $65,000 to $82,000 in first year depreciation alone.
Although the car manufacturers won’t like it, I’m going to make a bold, but true, statement:  Unless you’re wealthy, never buy a new car. It will damage your financial health.
TREATMENT
 1. What to do
Buy a two or three year old vehicle that has just come off a lease. Over the years, the quality and reliability of cars have improved dramatically. Today’s cars are built well and can be expected to run for at least 150,000 to 200,000 miles when they’re properly maintained.
Many used cars, especially those less than four years old, have low mileage and look new. If you have them checked out mechanically, you won’t have to worry about buying someone else’s problem and you can expect years of safe, dependable service.
When you buy a used car, the original owner has absorbed the early depreciation. Instead of paying $25,000, you may pay $17,000, which is 32% less that the original owner paid. You also have to finance much less so your monthly payments, insurance and fees will be lower. If you decide to sell the car, you’ll get more of your money back because your car will have held more of its value. Over the course of your car-buying life, buying late-model used cars can save you lots of money.
When cars are returned to banks or finance companies at the end of leases, the lenders don’t want the cars. They want to sell them as quickly as possible to get their money back. So they work with dealers that specialize in selling off-lease vehicles for lenders.
These dealers are called lender liquidation dealers or liquidators. Every month, liquidators receive a large numbers of recently returned cars. The liquidator that I’ve bought cars from gets 1500 cars a month. It takes the best 250, put them in their showrooms and sells them to walk-ins. Then, they wholesale the rest at auto auctions. Since lenders are eager to sell, their liquidators frequently sell returned cars below book value.
Liquidators work with a number of banks and leasing companies and are paid a commission or a percentage of the sales price of the vehicles they sell. The balance of the sale proceeds they receive are turned over to the lenders.
My local liquidators’ showroom is filled with 150 to 200 cars so you always have a good selection from which to choose. They look new, have low mileage (most have between 10,000 and 30,000 miles), have been cleaned up and are certified as mechanically sound by the liquidator. Most cars are priced at three to five percent below book value. You can buy an extended warranty, finance your purchase through the liquidator or lease it or purchase it outright.
I’ve purchased six new-looking, dependable cars from a local liquidator. I bought each for less than book value and have always been well pleased. Buying from a liquidator involves little or no haggling because the cars are so well priced to begin with.

2009 Bugatti Sports Cars Veyron Reviews

In a highlight on this year’s agenda of centennial celebrations, Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. presented four Bugatti Veyron specials at Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza. These one off models are reminders of Bugatti’s glorious motor-racing history which played a central role in popularising and ultimately establishing the myth which the brand continues to enjoy to this day.
The Bugatti brand is almost inextricably linked to the Type 35. The Type 35 Grand Prix was by far the most successful racing model. The unmistakable radiator grille and eight-spoke aluminum wheels of the Type 35 have become defining features of the Bugatti automobile. In its day, the Grand Prix was also well ahead of its time in terms of engineering ingenuity.
The front axle design of this vehicle, which, for reasons of weight minimization, is hollow, is a true masterpiece of workmanship and was deemed nothing less than revolutionary. Its springs were passed through the axle to produce a high level of stability. The Grand Prix’s brake drums were integrally fitted into its lightweight aluminum wheels. Unfastening the central wheel nut allowed the wheel to be easily removed within a matter of seconds and the brake to be exposed. This was a crucial advantage at the pit stop.
The blue racers made their first appearance on the race track at the Grand Prix held by Automobil Club de France in Lyon in 1924. In the decade that followed, they remained practically unchallenged thanks to sophisticated manufacturing efforts, their lightweight design and easy handling. During that ten-year era, they won almost 2000 races – more than any other model ever has.

BUGATTI SPORTS CARS GALLERY

Grand Prix races were highly fashionable events in those days, and Bugatti was not the only brand with considerable interest in substantiating the reputation of its products by winning races. In fact, in the 1920s, Europe was regularly host to a number of different races in different countries on a single weekend. The teams set up by different automobile manufacturers competed at popular race circuits such as Targa Florio, Le Mans, Monza and Spa as well as in Rome, Nice, Antibes and even a village in Alsace.
The main reason Bugatti won such an enormous number of races – on the back of which successes the brand was also able to forge its image – was the fact that Bugatti sold not only its normal sports and touring cars to private buyers, but its racing cars too. Thus it was that its automobiles took part in such a large number of Grand Prix events.
Tradition being what it is, the Bugatti Veyron Specials built to mark the 100th anniversary of the brand feature the racing colors of the respective countries: blue for France, red for Italy, green for England and white for Germany. Each of the four new Veyrons has a specific “predecessor” in the form of an original Grand Prix Bugatti on which it was modelled.
These four historic race cars represent the generation of legendary Bugatti Grand Prix racers which were piloted by world-famous race-car drivers and which scored countless racing victories in the 1920s and ‘30s. Each of the four Veyron Specials is named after a Bugatti race-car driver of the 1920s and 30s. Jean-Pierre Wimille has given the blue Veyron its name, Achille Varzi the red one, Malcolm Campbell the green one and Hermann zu Leiningen the white Veyron.

“We have put a lot of effort into translating colour and material, the defining characteristics of our historic role models, into the designs of the modern-day Veyrons,” explains Alasdair Stewart, Director Sales & Marketing at Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. “We have taken extreme care to match the original colours of the original race cars, exterior and interior”
On Sunday, the four historic racing Type 35s and the four modern-day Centenaire Edition Veyrons will be exhibited alongside each other in the park of Villa Erba for the first and only time.
Ahead of that presentation, Bugatti will on Saturday be prominently represented in the park of Villa d’Este by a special-display-class exhibition of models, which will serve to portray the 100-year history of the brand. Bugatti’s participation in the classic Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como will be the second highlight event to mark the carmaker’s centennial celebrations after it took part in the International Geneva Motor Show in early March.
This latest event will be followed by the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California in mid-August and the main celebratory event on 12 September in Molsheim (Alsace), which has been the home of this unparalleled automobile brand for 100 years.

2013 BMW Sports Cars Coupe i8 Hybrid Reivews

BMW is now concentrating on the development of the first cars to wear the “i” logo, hybrid range-extended and full-electric plug-in vehicles. 2013 BMW Sports Cars Coupe i8 Hybrid is based on the 2009’s Vision Efficient Dynamics concept model, undergoing cold weather tests in Northern Europe.
BMW also unveiled a revised version of that model, called the Vision ConnectedDrive Concept, during this year’s 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The i8 plug-in hybrid sports car is scheduled to arrive in the market in2013.
The 2013 BMW Sports Cars Coupe i8 Hybrid is one of two vehicles BMW has planned for its new green-minded “i” sub-brand. First to arrive will be the BMW i3, a compact 4-seat electric vehicle intended for urban driving. Further up the price and performance scale, the i8 will be powered by a hybrid system incorporating a small gasoline-powered engine—though the exact specifics and power output have not yet been released.
BMW has promised that the performance of the 2013 BMW Sports Cars Coupe i8 Hybrid will be in keeping with that of the brand’s other sports models. Other vehicles will then be added to the “i” lineup after the launch of the i3 and i8.

2013 BMW Sports Cars Coupe i8 Hybrid Reviews

Lightweight materials—like carbon fiber and aluminum—will make up a big part of the 2013 BMW Sports Cars Coupe i8 Hybrid’s structure. This should help to offset the weight of the lithium-ion battery pack and other high-tech hardware beneath the car’s skin. Regenerative braking and BMW’s stop-start system (which turns off the engine when the caris stopped, and then restarts it automatically when acceleration is needed) will almost certainly be included in the 2013 BMW Sports Cars Coupe i8 Hybrid.
BMW R&D chief Klaus Draeger revealed that the diesel unit will be replaced with a gasoline engine in the production model but while the electric motors will remain. “We want to sell it all over the world. Diesel is only really relevant to Europe,” Draeger was quoted as saying.

Veyron Centenary Bugatti Sports Car New Photos

2009 Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. finishes its Centenary celebrationswith three tailor made cars, especially developed for its discerning clientele in the Middle East: the Veyron “Sang d’Argent”, the Grand Sport “Soleil de Nuit” and the Veyron “Nocturne”, limited to five cars only. Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. presents the Bugatti Veyron Bleu Centenaire at the 2009 Geneve Motor Show, a special commission honouring the 100th anniversary of the company, thus initiating a range of worldwide activities celebrating the creation of this mythic brand a hundred years ago. In addition Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport is shown for the first time to a wider public in Europe.
Honouring the foundation of the company in 1909 Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S opened the anniversary with a one-off version of the Veyron, the “Bleu Centenaire”, at the Geneva Motor Show in March. At the Villa d’Este weekend at the end of April the company paid tribute to Bugatti’s racing history – which was to a great extend responsible for the worldwide reputation of the brand – with four very special Grand Sports, accompanied by their respective Type 35 predecessors, all featuring the traditional racing colours representing France, Italy, England and Germany, namely blue, red, green and white. Bugatti was then one of the honoured marques at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California in August and highlighted the event with the presentation of the “Sang Bleu”, a one off Grand Sport in a breathtaking and unique carbon – aluminium combination. The “100th Anniversary Weekend” in Molsheim in September was the platform for a glimpse into the future which might look like the Bugatti 16 C Galibier concept – intended to be the most exclusive, elegant and powerful four door automobile in the world.

2009 Veyron Centenary Bugatti Sports Car Reviews

Building on the marque's core values of « Art - Forme - Technique » , Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. has created the Bugatti Veyron Bleu Centenaire, a unique model to celebrate the hundred year old history of the company. This special model takes up the traditional Bugatti two-tone-specification, but portrays it in one rather than two colours: in the most known light shaded Bugatti blue. The Centenaire's unique combination of a « sprintblue matt » and « sprintblue gloss » hence offers a new impression of the two-tone-scheme known so far with parts of the engine also covered in this traditional Bugatti Blue.
The roof-trim-stripes and the exterior rearview mirrors are of polished, anodised aluminium. A special wheel design has been added - enhanced by a bright red brake-capillar. The grills at the front and at the side air intakes are in « mirror shine ».
The interior of the Centenaire is fitted in a special «snowbeige» leather with quilting on the seats. The central console is covered in the same leather. New LED lights, Park Distance Control and a rearview camera have become part of the standard equipment for all Bugatti Veyrons from this year onwards.
The Bugatti Veyron Bleu Centenaire shares all performance characteristics of other Veyron models performance-, acceleration- and deceleration characteristics which have been highly praised ever since the Bugatti Veyron first appeared on the scene. The car will cost 1,35 Million Euro exclusive taxes and transportation. The presentation of these very special cars at the Dubai Motor Show is the final highlight, with which Bugatti ends its Centenary celebrations. We are honoured to complete our 100 Years at this prestigious Motor Show of a very important market for Bugatti.

The Bugatti EB110 Super Cars Reviews

The Bugatti EB110, named to commemorate 110 years since Ettore Bugatti's birth, was the first car produced after the rejuvenation of Bugatti. The Bugatti EB110 was a superb aluminium bodied mid-engined V12 supercar. The EB110's extroverted design was penned by Marcello Gandini (also responsible for the Lamborghini Countach and Lancia Stratos), it received praise and dislike in similar measures.

Under the skin the Bugatti EB110 was mechanically advanced, it featured a 60 valve 3.5 litre V12 engine fitted with four turbochargers. This unit developed anywhere between 560 to 611 horsepower, and mated to a 6 speed AWD system it made the Bugatti EB110 a formidable driving tool.

As well as the 'standard' EB110, Bugatti created a lightened and more powerful 'SS' version. In total somewhere between 150 and 160 EB110 supercars were produced.

Veyron Bugatti Concept Sport Car Reviews

The Veyron was designed by Hartmut Warkuss of Volkswagen rather than Giorgetto Giugiaro of ItalDesign who had handled the three prior Bugatti concepts.
Development continued throughout 2001 and the EB 16/4 Veyron was promoted to "advanced concept" status. In late 2001 Bugatti announced that the car, officially called the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 , would go into production in 2003. The car experienced significant problems, however. High-speed stability was difficult, with one prototype destroyed in a crash and another spun out during a press demonstration at the Monterey Historics event in Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca . Production of the Veyron was delayed indefinitely.
After the release of the car, it has become known that while each Veyron is being sold for £840,000, the production costs of the car are approximately £5 million per vehicle. As Bugatti, and thereforeVolkswagen, are making such a huge loss, it has been likened by influential journalist Jeremy Clarkson to Concorde ; both are largely impractical experiments in technology and ground-breaking performance created just to prove that it could be done. A car the like of the Bugatti Veyron may not be seen in production again for some time to come, if at all.
The Veyron features a W16 engine —16 cylinders in 4 banks of 4 cylinders, or the equivalent of two narrow-angle V8 engines mated in a vee configuration. Each cylinder has 4 valves , for a total of 64, but the narrow V8 configuration allows two camshafts to drive two banks of cylinders so only 4 camshafts are needed. The engine is fed by four turbochargers , and it displaces 8.0 L (7,993 cm³/488 in³) with a square 86 by 86 mm bore and stroke.
The Veyron's 16-cylinder engine is based on the innovative "W" design introduced in the 2003 Volkswagen Passat. The Veyron's version features two 90-degree V8s offset by 15 degrees. The offset allows each cylinder to be placed close to its neighbor, which reduces the total size of the massive 8.0-liter engine. A Formula 1?style dry-sump lubrication system keeps the engine moving smoothly. It's easier to spin many small turbochargers than one or two large ones, so Bugatti employs four turbos to reduce boost lag. The strategy works: The engine creates 922 lb.-ft. of torque at only 2,200 rpm.
Putting this power to the ground is a dual-clutch DSG computer-controlled manual transmission with 7 gear ratios via shifter paddles behind the steering wheel. Or it can be driven by full automatic transmission. The Veyron also features full-time all wheel drive , necessary given the output of the engine. It uses special Michelin PAX System run-flat tires, which had to be designed specifically for the Veyron, and which are capable of running at 402 km/h (253 mph).
The car's wheelbase is 2700 mm (106.3 in). Overall length is 4466 mm (175.8 in). It measures 1998 mm (78.7 in) wide and 1206 mm (47.5 in) tall. Curb weight is expected to reach 4300 lb (1950 kg) with a power to weight ratio of 513.3 hp per ton (metric) or 4.36 lb/hp (SAE).The Bugatti Veyron has a total of 10 radiators .
